Social Skills Groups
“Bridging the Friendship Gap”
Alison provides social skills groups for two age ranges; ages 8 to 10 and 11 to 13. Each group is six weeks in length, where kids will learn strategies including:
- Listening when others are talking
- Beginning a conversation
- Meeting people
- Joining an ongoing activity
- Asking questions appropriately
- Interpreting body language
- Understanding one’s impact on others
Purpose:
- Identify Strengths and deficits in social interactions
- Provide an opportunity to practice social skills with other kids
- Create an environment to experience successful social interactions with others
Parent Education & Training
Alison also offers unique parent training groups, addressing effective behavior approaches and parenting strategies to raise healthy and resilient children. Weekly meetings address hot topics in your child’s development, including:
- Making friends
- Living in a high tech world
- Taming tempers
- The overscheduled child
- Homework habits
Purpose:
- Achieve congruence between parenting philosophies and approaches
- Gain skills in talking to your children about difficult subjects
- Learn how to set appropriate boundaries and limits
- Develop open, effective parent-child communication
- Learn effective discipline strategies
